The 2022 USC Lambda LGBTQ+ Scholarship Gala celebrated and honored the achievements of distinguished LGBTQ+ and allied alumni while supporting the Lambda Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to USC students dedicated to LGBTQ+ advocacy. Held on April 9, 2022, the event featured inspiring moments, including the Outstanding Scholar Award given to Carla Ibarra, an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and public health professional at USC’s Keck School of Medicine. Ibarra, a vocal advocate for transgender rights and mental health awareness, has made significant contributions both in Los Angeles and nationally, including her involvement with the MTV Mental Health Youth Action Forum at the White House.
The gala also celebrated the ongoing work of the USC Lambda LGBTQ+ Alumni Association in fostering an inclusive community, networking, and mentorship opportunities that have supported LGBTQ+ students and allies for years. Proceeds from the event were directed toward continuing Lambda’s mission and expanding scholarship funds to empower a new generation of leaders.
